Sage, oak, evergreen. Cacti too, and countless others I cannot name. Flourishing along the canyon carved by the reason they grow. Not all will last the next flood, but to them it does not matter.

I propriocept on slick rock and sand, finally asking myself why I don’t just get wet. Too much fun with childlike scrambling maybe, hopping and ducking from rock to rock. Feeling small, lithe and young. Dancing and breathing in the balance of it all, which has and will yet again flood and fall. Not today, at least.
