Today is the start of the end! This morning I took my last hot shower and packed my gear up! Poet, the owner of the hostel, took 10 of us thru hikers to the trail head and gave us some incredible motivation for the trail ahead. He told us a haiku and some cool stories from his experiences. After he dropped us off and gave us his final words, I felt like sprinting the next 100 miles! I was so pumped! Forever grateful for him and his wife and my stay at the Shaws Hiker Hostel. At the same parking lot and trailhead, a fellow hiker was celebrating his 50th birthday and there was a cooler full of trail magic! Candies and sodas, so awesome! So stoked! I hit the trail running after signing his log book and thanking God for the blessings! What a great life! I passed all 9 hikers that i got dropped with because my excitement had me cruising! The last of the 9 was a philipino guy around my age maybe a few years younger named "Not Lost". He had thru hiked the AT last year and came back just to hike the 100 mile wilderness. His pace was unlike anyone I had hiked with before, he kept me going! My guardian hiker angel for the day! I stubbed my toe on some roots and my right Topo shoe kept breaking apart, the sole was worthless, I duct taped it but it kept failing. We forded some rivers and streams, I smacked my knee on a rock after taking too risky of a jump from rock to rock and slipped on the wet rock, should've thrown my pack across first, wont make that mistake again, You cannot get hurt out here in the 100 mile wilderness, it is all or nothing! There are some service roads but it is by far the most remote section of the trail. It was stormy and cloudy all day with rain towards the end of the day. I was struggling with not seeing any of the amazing views I thought I would be seeing, but I pressed on! Had some delicious snacks along the way and passed the 2100 mile marker! Late at night I finally found some water and a shelter where a southbounder was staying. Super grateful!
