Back  In The Saddle?

At least I'm consistent... but not in a good way.  It's been three months since the Las Vegas Marathon, and I still feel like I ran it just a few days ago.  No recovery is going on, and training makes it worse, so I've been taking a lot of time off.  I just rest, do a few easy jogs to maintain some semblance of shape, and do the races I've signed up for this year.  So far there have been two races - the Naples Half Marathon and The Itch 50k, on back to back weekends in mid January.

I ran my worst half marathon ever, by a lot.  Last year I ran 1:36, this year 2:06.  I had nothing.

A week later, I was concerned that I wouldn't be able to finish the 50k, but I managed to flog my dead legs to do my bidding, finishing in time to make it to the airport afterwards.

A few easy jogs over the past two weeks and now it's off to Mesa for a marathon, wondering whether I'll be able to break five hours.

If you are wondering why I don't just give it up and start my racing sabbatical now instead of waiting until June, it's because I'm still hoping that if I can't run fast, maybe I can still run slow for a long, long time, which I'll need to do in my 300-mile race coming up in April.
