This section of the Buckeye Trail reminded me of my North-Central Ohio hometown of Shelby, Richland County. So I found my thoughts and prayers drifting towards my experiences from that season of life and the way they shaped me.

The hiking itself was significantly flatter than what I experienced with Southeast Ohio, and it was mostly on paved surfaces, which alleviated some stresses but added others. In particular, the sight-lines sometimes felt infinite, and it was rainy for long stretches at a time. But I kept plodding and eventually discovered that each section of the trail was finite. And fortunately, my rain gear held up enough to keep me from being totally miserable.

There was a significant shift in action from mile 20 to 23: (1) It got dark, (2) I entered Findley State Park, which was largely shrouded in mist from the thawing snow and ice, (3) I put in headphones and started listening to music, and (4) I had a spectacular fall on a patch of ice, a cartoonish butt-plant that made my smart-watch want to notify the authorities.

I was wiped out when I finally made it to Wellington — but I made it!
