Today, instead of skiing alone, I went with a great group of guys I've been skiing with frequently. Our original plan was to ski the Algonquin Bowl, then exit via the lower slide. While they lapped the bowl a few times, I planned to break off and tag Iroquois.

I’m just glad it turned out to be a beautiful day.

But what actually happened was a bit different. While I was on my solo trek to Iroquois, I encountered intense wind loading higher up—the snow was like concrete. It was so incredibly hard that skiing felt more like sliding on ice. On the way back down from Iroquois, I clipped a snow drift, got ejected from my skis, and slammed full force into another drift. This happened right in front of two other skiers, and I ended up lying there in excruciating pain for about 10 minutes. At that moment, I genuinely didn’t know if I could even stand, let alone walk.

After about 20 minutes, I managed to collect myself with some assistance and skied back up to Algonquin. Somehow, I still pulled off skiing both peaks today.

For a while, I was seriously worried I might need a rescue—I legitimately didn’t know if I’d be able to get off the mountain with how bad the injury was. But through sheer force and determination (and probably 1000 mg of ibuprofen), I made it back down to my car.

I had to stop the recording on the way down Algonquin, because my phone actually fell into the snow and I had to spend 10 minutes looking for it. Thankfully I did find it! I forgot to start my recording back up. 

I’m actually heading to the hospital right after writing this.
