Well this Epic turned into quite the Epic…
Ron and I left from his house in Haddam, rolled strong for 16 miles before picking up Sean and Joe. Matt joined the group about a mile after that. A few more miles, then Rob hopped on in Durham; finally picked up Marty not long after that. The squad is now deep.
We all rolled down into New Haven, grabbed a quick vista atop East Rock, then descended to Coffee Pedaler for our espresso drinks of choice (whole milk cortado for me, the ideal cycling ratio). The plan for the day was NH apizza, but we scrapped this idea realizing any quality pie would come with a long wait on a sunny Saturday.
Matt and Marty stayed in New Haven while Sean, Ronnie, Rob, Joe and I quested on. We got on some railroad tracks, met a playful 9 week old German Shepherd named Ginger. Back on the tracks, my rear tube caught a pinch flat. Put in a freshie while Rob patched my bad one, onward. 
Cruising along shoreline roads, we got caught in torrential downpour. The other guys got in a ferocious paceline that I didn’t have the legs for by the time we hit the first climb, this was the last I saw of them. My camera possibly died during this downpour, tbd.
I was chasing ghosts from here on out, and gunning hard to see if I could catch the last 5pm ferry back to Hadlyme. This ended when I took a wrong turn onto a jeep road, descended far, and flatted right next to the familiar Pine Ledge sport crag. My repaired spare wasn’t holding air, I’m assuming it had another leak we didn’t find earlier. Ride concluded, walk begins.
