AT day 90: Summit day

A long awaited venture into the Mahoosuc. One last dance with my partner in crime Amber Constant. She was to bail halfway at Carlo Col and catch a ride in the afternoon. When we realized that plan went to shit, she could have either turned around and gone back to her car, or we could strap on the hard hat and go to work for the whole traverse.. (she didn’t have a headlamp or water filter so I had to play chaperone against my will) 
With her 4L running vest, she was as chipper as a red squirrel. By the 14th hour, she was all giggles and go lucky, while I could barely formulate words. My pack was filled to the brim with food for the week ahead and I felt every ounce. There was a slight moment when I thought of throwing her off the Mahoosuc arm down into the depths of the notch. Cooler heads prevailed, adversity was overcome and we made it Grafton Notch where her ride, Chase Hall  was not only waiting with a pizza, but hiked the final mile up trail to bring her a spare headlamp so that we could get down quicker. Guy deserves all the flowers. Thank you Chase for the much needed mental boost and for leaving your day on the Presi to be there for your friends when we needed you the most.

Now time for some solitude
