A lesser-visited sequoia grove in Yosemite National Park.
While the Mariposa Grove of sequoias might be the most famous grove in Yosemite National Park, the Tuolumne Grove receives a fraction of the traffic, making for an even more serene experience!
The crowds are much lighter because you'll have to walk about 1.5 miles one-way to reach the grove. You'll begin by descending about 400 vertical feet down the Old Big Oak Flat Road from the trailhead to reach the grove. Be sure that you're up for the challenge of returning back up the hill to the trailhead—there's only one way back up, and it's your own two feet!
Once at the grove, you'll find a short loop trail that winds through the sequoias, providing ample opportunity to enjoy the beautiful trees. There's even a dead sequoia with a tunnel cut through it that you can walk through!
Despite the roughly 666 feet of elevation gain required on this hike, the road is easy to negotiate, and even the path through the sequoia grove is flat and non-technical. This makes for a delightful family-friendly hike that is radically easier than most of the other trails in Yosemite National Park!
