The Sliding Sands Trail (also known as the Keonehe’ehe’e Trail) takes you through a multicolored landscape from the summit of the Haleakalā Volcano towards the Haleakalā crater. This trail follows an out and back route and can be extended up to 6+ miles each way. Most Strava members take the truncated route shown here. The trail begins with a long descent, but what goes down must come back up. Because of this difficult return journey, most consider this a hard trail. This is one of the most popular hikes on Maui with Strava members. This hike falls within Haleakalā National Park, which charges a fee to enter.
