Started out towards Stave: open water south of the island, but a strip of ice to the north. First part was choppy but thick ice. Newly frozen section of ice about halfway out did not seem quite as reliable. I tempted fate a bit, but turned around after hearing enough cracks and pops. Stayed along the shore and went up to White's Beach. From there it looked like there might be a shot out to Providence, but found the same ribbon of sketchy ice there too. Hearing those loud thunks will tighten up your pucker real quick. I turned around and went home.
